One year or more on from the big change in working places that came due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are still working at home. That culture change was forced on businesses by the virus and the government advice but how are things changing as the restrictions are coming to an end?
Many people were already embracing the work from home ideal before the pandemic started. Whether they were self-employed or simply worked in a flexible manner with their employer, the big change of the virus lockdown didn’t impact them as much. And probably won’t impact them much going forward - although those internet speeds at peak times might improve a little!
For many businesses, there’s a rush back to ‘normality’ as they view it because they were never fans of working from home. Big banks and financial sector companies have been ones that already say they will pull staff into the office as soon as it is safe to do so and working from home will be a thing of the past.
But lots of companies fall into the middle ground. Flexible working practices, balancing working approaches and when staff can do their jobs has proven to be successful for productivity and overall morale. That means many of the systems and features that staff have started using will continue to be needed for the foreseeable future.
