Remote working IT security is one of the major issues when you have staff working out of the office. There’s always the need to ensure anyone accessing company servers or cloud systems has the right security to protect them and the business. But where do you start?
Firstly, it is good practice to train staff not to use a public Wi-Fi to access work systems. This is because other people can access the network and there’s not the same protection as you would find at home or at work. You can however use a personal hotspot through a smartphone if staff want to work away from home. This will count against data cost but has much better security.
It is important that staff have a clear process in place for what hardware to use for their work. A company laptop or tablet can be a good option as this can be pre-configured with the right security. If the employee does want to use a personal device, certain security systems will need to be added before this is allowed.
Learning about line of sight danger when in a public place is something most people don’t consider. A clever cybercriminal can watch what you are doing or even video you typing – and get access to passwords and login information with this. Just like the pin on your card, you should protect yourself from line of sight viewing when adding this information.
