Does your Business Need a Telephone Upgrade?

31 August 2016

Living in a digital world, there are many technological processes that have now been rendered obsolete or have almost disappeared. Scanning and faxing, two abilities that were once essential for any self-respecting business are now gone.

Some experts suggest that in as little as 10 years’ time, the landline could also be obsolete. For any business, this is hard to imagine because even in the day and age of orders coming in thick and fast online, the telephone still plays an important role.

Are your ready for these changes? Will your telephone system be able to deal with the changes that people predict are coming your way?

There are five tell-tale signs that your telephone system may not be in the best shape to evolve in the coming years…

#1 Lack of scalability

As a business, you want to grow and evolve. If you remain stuck in the same place, without realising it, you are sliding backwards.

So, as your business grows and your office space starts to grow to accommodate new staff, can you telephone system cope with additional extensions and users?

It may be that to keep altering your current system also leads to expense. If this is the case, it may mean the age of the system is also rendering it difficult to modify it. The answer may lay in a new telephone system.

#2 Unable to handle increases in call volume

As your business grows, you will receive more phone calls. There may also be pinch points in the year, week or day in which you will expect and receive far more phone calls than you normally would.

Is your current system equipped and able to deal with a higher volume of calls? If you are unsure, it pays to have the system assessed for not only handling larger call volume but also compatibility with new systems.

#3 Incompatible with VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is, say the experts, the further in terms of business and personal communications.

VoIP is the ability to make and receive phone calls over the Internet. This can mean significant savings for you, as a business, on phone rental charges, as well as being a convenient way of customers to make contact with you.

If your current system does not support VoIP, the time has come to upgrade as you are missing out on a lucrative market.

#4 Lacking features

If you have more than one office base, you will want them to be connected via phone lines – and you need them to be reliable. But you do not want this increase in the telephone system to be costly or too onerous a task.

Updating your telephone system means this multi-office features are available, without being expensive nor cumbersome.

#5 No link between the system and mobile technology

In the modern business world, not everyone is sat behind their desk, waiting for people to ring. Employees are often out in the field and the use of mobile phone technology has come on leaps and bounds since the days of the 80s where the battery was as big as briefcase and the mobile phone just as big.

With so much done via mobile phones etc., it pays to have a telephone system that is compatible with mobile technology. Is yours?
