From 30th June 2014,  20 million people in the UK have the right to request flexible working hours after the government extended the right previously reserved for carers and those looking after children.

Modern businesses understand that offering employees the right to flexible working means a happier, more efficient workplace.

Post-recession, people now place more importance on having more time to spend with family or to pursue things like additional training, and with technological advances in smartphones, tablets and business telephone systems. People can work anywhere with Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G signal with the same functionality as they would have in the office.

Does your business currently have the ability to support a flexible or mobile workforce? Some simple modifications to your communications structure could mean to greater levels of employee retention, better customer service, and improved business continuity. Flexible working can mean that workforce is working smart at the right times to suit their lives and suit your business need.

Businesses have to give all  employees a fair hearing, and employees have a right to challenge an employer’s reason to refuse a request. Don’t let functionality be your reason to refuse an employee’s request.
